 By S Adeeb Mujtaba Ali

The havoc created by pandemic is leaving everyone around with anxiety, stress and overwhelming experience due to social distancing and isolation from peers. But one shouldn't forget that these are necessary precautions/requirements to be observed in order to prevent the spread of virus.

One should learn to deal and cope up with stress and anxiety, panic and depression during this period. As by doing so, it will not only help you to recover faster but also help the care takers around you become more resilient.

Quick look into affects of stress:

Experiences like fear, worries, frustration, sleeplessness, change in appetite, desires, interest, feeling of numbness, short temper, sadness, insecure feeling, irritation to small stimuli, losses concentration and reasoning ability.

The patients are also reported to exhibit physical reactions like skin rashes, digestive problems, body pains, headaches. Worsened chronic health and mental health problems.

In addition, it was also noticed that people increased the consumption of alcohol, tobacco etc.

However, it's natural process which cannot be disturbed. Only with time and patience, precautions and medication we can have victory over COVID-19

Let's see some of the healthy ways to deal with stress:

1) First and foremost limit the use of social media. Ofcourse when at home with no socialization it's but obviously that we tend to engage ourselves with social media. But Dear all stop the excessive use of technology.

2) Take good care of yourself. Groom yourself, take care of your body, meditate, excercise, eat balanced food, keep yourself hydrated, take plenty of sleep. Limit or avoid smoking, tobacco and alcohol consumption.

3) Continue your routine medication, get vaccinated (it boosts your immunity) and other screenings as prescribed by family doctor/ physician according to your health condition.

4) Try to reconnect with long lost activities, a hobby, do something which makes you feel happy and merry around.

5) In this time of social distancing stay connected with near and dears through calls, video chat, attend virtual events (Workshop, conference, gathering etc)

6) Help those in need- financial support, physical support etc.

In conclusion, keep high hopes. We shall overcome. Stay positive and spread positivity.  Stay home, stay safe, stay connected.

COVID-19 is new normal. A culture which has made us realise and embrace many things (positive and negative) which I guess we would not have had experienced in its absence.

Mucormycosis: 2021 Epidemic ???

It would be unjustifiable for me to not chronicle this issue as a microbiologist.                                            Image credits:  Pathology Outlines - Zygomycetes Mucormycosis (formerly known as zygomycosis) is a severe but uncommon fungal illness caused by mucormycetes, a kind of mould. Molds may be found in many kinds of places. Mucormycosis is a fungal infection that mostly affects persons who have health issues or who use medications that reduce the body's capacity to resist infections and illness. After breathing fungal spores from the air, it most often affects the sinuses and lungs. It can also happen after a cut, a burn, or any other form of skin damage. While we work to defend ourselves against COVID-19 and live with it, there is another threat posed by a fungus that we must be aware of and respond to. During or after recovery, a few COVID-19 patients ha...

Counseling psycology: History

By S Adeeb Mujtaba Ali Since the dawn of society, counseling has been an important part. Right from grandparents to parents advising other family members followed by providing guidance to residents by community leaders, counseling has always been an important and organic part of the human experience. During the Industrial Revolution era when people and their mobility increased by migrating to other lands, the traditional essence of counselors was lost due to separation from their families and communities. Following which there was a communication gap, people started feeling isolated and led them to approach for psychiatric help or landing to asylums.  In present times people started opting for modern psychiatry, which is nothing but professional counseling, a current trend taking rounds to keep a check on mental health. However, the presence of inefficient mental health institutes led to, a mental hygiene movement —headed by a cohort of psychiatrists,...

Practical learning vs theoretical learning

The most contentious topic of discussion: theory vs. practical knowledge. Some believe that students should study more about practical courses such as computer degree programs, technical degree programs, and so on. Others, however, believe that students should learn about theoretical subjects such as history and science. But first, let's know what this term implies, and what theory is. In our educational system, theories about knowing basic life fundamentals meet with any topic, such as science, mathematics, english, geography, and history. Theoretical knowledge, then, is the understanding of what is true. Theoretical knowledge may assist you in comprehending the underlying notion and understanding how something works and how it works. The term "theoretical knowledge" refers to learning something without applying it in practice. It explains why one is more successful and the other is unsuccessful. Theoretical knowledge may help you grasp a notion better by allowing you t...
